It was meant to start with a safe for Fox nude scene with River (played by Summer Glau’s stunt double as her parents disapproved of her appearing so in the Pilot and she allegedly told Joss Whedon he’d see God before he saw her naked again) and Inara, but while it would have been a sweet piece of character development added to the episode, it was cut during a cuffuffle between a Fox network guy who happened to be on set at the time, and the double act of Joss and Nathan Fillion after the latter whipped out a camera phone during filming (my guess would be that he was being more playfully cheeky than creepy, he really doesn’t seem the type to be nefarious, especially since Morena Baccarin pulled a similar prank on him a few episodes later).
In the end Whedon negotiated it down to the cut scene being wiped and not even being included as a DVD extra in return for the exec to get off Nathan’s back about it.
Oh oh oh, that is adorable. God, I wish this had existed so much. Damn Nathan and his phone!
To my knowledge, River was nude ‘cause, well… she’s River and she was just kinda frolicking in the water. Inara told her...
fox, why do you kill everything good in this world?
